Convocation
The convocation is an important event in the life of every IIT graduate whether B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc, M.S. or Ph.D. The convocation is held on the last Friday of July or in the subsequent week under some circumstances. In the early years of IIT the function used to be held at the OAT but from the time the SAC building was built, convocations have always been held there. The feature that distinguishes the IIT convocation is that each graduand personally receives his/her degree from the director of the institute.
The Institute invites persons of eminence from different walks of life to be the Chief Guest at the Convocation. The President of India, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan was the Chief Guest at the first convocation and many distinguished personalities have graced the occasion ever since.
